They probably lived at Spring Grove, site of an iron forge. Note that Martha understated her age by four years. “John S.” is John Sharp, born 10 May 1838. According to the census taker, Jacob Ayers owned no real estate but possessed $120 worth of personal property. The census taker also noted that Jacob Ayers could neither read nor write.
